How to anonymize information before sharing

PURPOSE Anonymizing information reduces privacy risk when exact identities are not needed. WHAT TO REMOVE Remove names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, account numbers, employee IDs, customer IDs, and unique combinations that identify a person. REPLACE WITH GENERIC TERMS Use labels such as Customer A, Employee 1, Location X, or Sample Account. CHECK CONTEXT Sometimes context can still identify someone even after names are removed. BEST PRACTICE Share the smallest amount of data needed to answer the question.
