How to handle urgent requests for money or gift cards

PURPOSE Urgent money or gift card requests are common fraud tactics. RED FLAGS Be suspicious of secrecy, emotional pressure, unusual payment methods, requests from executives, changed payment details, or instructions to avoid normal approval. WHAT TO DO Do not purchase gift cards, send money, or change payment details based only on an email, text, or chat message. VERIFY Use a trusted separate channel to confirm the request. REPORT Report suspicious requests immediately with the original message, sender details, and any related conversation.
