How to prepare a Mac for support
PURPOSE
How to prepare a Mac before handing it to support or starting a remote support session.
GENERAL STEPS
Open System Settings, Finder, Spotlight, Activity Monitor, Printers & Scanners, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Displays, Privacy & Security, or the relevant macOS tool for the task.
VERIFY RESULTS
Confirm the setting, application, device, printer, network connection, permission, storage level, or system information is correct before closing the task.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If macOS behaves unexpectedly, save your work, restart the Mac, note any error messages, and check whether the issue affects one application or the entire device.
BEST PRACTICE
Avoid changing advanced macOS settings, profiles, security tools, or management agents unless support instructs you. Macs are elegant, but they can still punish random clicking.
