How to handle emails asking for urgent payment
FIRST RULE
Urgency is not proof of legitimacy. It is often the hook.
WARNING SIGNS
Requests for wire transfers, gift cards, payment method changes, secrecy, bypassing approval, or unusual timing should be treated as high risk.
VERIFY SEPARATELY
Contact the requester using a known phone number or trusted communication channel. Do not use contact details only provided in the email.
FOLLOW PROCESS
Use normal approval and payment procedures, even if the sender claims there is an emergency.
REPORT
If the request appears fraudulent, report it with the original message and any related thread history.
