How to add page numbers

PURPOSE Page numbers help readers reference and navigate documents. STEPS Use the header or footer tools in your word processor to insert automatic page numbers. OPTIONS Choose placement, starting number, number format, and whether the first page should be different. SECTION BREAKS If different sections need different numbering, use section breaks and adjust numbering settings carefully. CHECK Export or print preview the document to confirm numbering appears as expected.
