How to freeze rows and columns

PURPOSE Freezing rows or columns keeps important labels visible while scrolling through a spreadsheet. WHEN TO USE IT Freeze the header row when working with long lists. Freeze the first column when row labels or names need to stay visible. STEPS Select the row or column boundary, then use the freeze panes or freeze row/column option in your spreadsheet application. CHECK Scroll down and across to confirm the correct area stays visible. TIP Avoid freezing too many rows or columns because it leaves less space for actual data.
