How to spot fake tech support messages
PURPOSE
Fake tech support messages try to trick users into giving access, money, passwords, or security codes.
COMMON SIGNS
Messages may claim your computer is infected, your account is locked, your files are at risk, or support needs remote access immediately.
RED FLAGS
Be suspicious of unsolicited calls, pop-ups, chats, emails, or texts asking for passwords, payment, gift cards, remote access, or MFA codes.
WHAT TO DO
Do not call numbers from pop-ups or suspicious messages. Contact support through a known trusted method.
REPORT
Report the message, number, screenshot, or email so it can be reviewed.
